Privacy Policy

ARKD ("we", "us", "our") is a sole trader conservation media business operated by Dyllan White in Perth, Western Australia. This policy explains how we collect, use, store and share your personal information when you visit arkd.com.au, buy from our shop, book a workshop or tutoring session, or contact us. We handle personal information in line with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles, and we apply those standards even where we may not strictly be required to.

1. What we collect

When you buy from us: name, email, phone number, billing and shipping address, order details. Payments are processed by our payment providers (see section 4). We do not see or store your full card number.

When you book a workshop, tour or tutoring session: name, email, phone, the date you book, your emergency contact, and any information you choose to give us about experience level, accessibility needs or dietary needs relevant to the session.

When you contact us or subscribe: your name, email address and the content of your message. If you join our mailing list, we collect your email address and sign-up date.

Automatically when you use the site: IP address, device and browser type, pages viewed, referring site, and approximate location derived from your IP address. This is collected through cookies and similar technologies (section 5).

We do not intentionally collect sensitive information (such as health information). If you volunteer something relevant to your safety on a workshop, we use it only to run the session safely.

2. Why we collect it

  • To process and deliver orders, and send order updates

  • To run and manage bookings, workshops and tutoring

  • To reply to enquiries and licensing requests

  • To send our newsletter, new print releases and podcast or film news, if you've opted in

  • To keep our website secure and understand how it's used so we can improve it

  • To meet legal, tax and accounting obligations

3. Marketing emails

We only send marketing emails with your consent, in line with the Spam Act 2003 (Cth). Every email includes an unsubscribe link, and we'll action unsubscribe requests promptly. Order and booking emails are not marketing, and you'll still receive those.

4. Who we share information with

We don't sell your personal information. We share it only with service providers who help us run the business, and only what they need to do their job:

  • Squarespace (online store, orders, payments) [and its payment processors, e.g. Square, PayPal]

  • Vimeo (film hosting; Vimeo may set its own cookies when you play a video)

  • Outlook (newsletter)

  • Couriers and postal services (name, address and phone number for delivery)

  • Accountants and professional advisers, and government bodies where legally required

5. Overseas disclosure

Many of these providers store data outside Australia, including in the United States, Canada and the European Union. By using our site or giving us your information you understand it may be processed in those countries. We choose reputable providers, but we can't control their systems, and their own privacy policies also apply.

6. Cookies and analytics

Our site uses cookies and similar tools to keep the shopping cart working, remember your preferences, measure site traffic, and to measure the performance of our advertising. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, but parts of the shop may stop working properly.

7. Security and retention

We take reasonable steps to protect your information, including using reputable platforms with encryption and access controls. No online system is completely secure, so we can't guarantee absolute security. We keep order and financial records for at least 5 years to meet tax and legal obligations. Other information is kept only as long as we need it, and mailing list details are kept until you unsubscribe.

8. Accessing and correcting your information

You can ask to see the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it where we're not required to keep it. Email info.arkd.com.au. We may need to verify your identity first, and we'll respond within a reasonable time (usually 30 days).

9. Complaints

If you're unhappy with how we've handled your information, contact us first at info@arkd.com.au and we'll investigate and respond. If you're not satisfied with our response, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at oaic.gov.au.

10. Children

Our site is not directed at children under 16. If you're under 16, please get a parent or guardian's permission before giving us any personal information or buying from us.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The current version is always on this page, with the date it was last updated.
